Weekend

Hi avid reader!

Quick wrap up of what was a pretty awesome weekend.

Last days of school for My Tween and The Little Woman, yipee! They are at present with my momma, off doing summery I’m-not-in-school fun stuff like movies and lunch and shopping today. Wish I was too…..The weekend consisted of movies- Indian Jones, dum da dum dummmmmm, which I thought was pretty good. PetSmart visit which ended with the procurement of two hermit crabs - named Spongebob and….I forget. We’d gone in with the idea of getting hamsters (of which were to be named Ham and Cheese, respectively, if I had any say in the matter) and come to find the only hamsters available were these mean spirited Syrian hammies, which were just plain nasty, and didn’t hold the same appeal as say a teddy bear hamster all fat and fluffy. At one point the girls launched a full court press for a guinea pig, but c’mon, mama just got used the the idea of a hamster, lets not push it. We’d almost conceeded to fish, when the crabs were spotted. 70 bucks later and Spongebob and whats-his-name were on the way home.

The best part of my weekend though? Ontie and Oncle’s second wedding in a church built in the 1700’s with the look of new love on their faces after 25 years of marriage. It was the most touching moment, really just beautiful. The ceremony was simple and sweet, and afterwards we all piled into their home and ate good food and laughed and drank champagne and celebrated something wonderful. I made at toast to that effect, noting that to celebrate love is what matters- new love, all flowery and exciting, and especially love that is old, and renews itself on days like these. They give me hope, Ontie and Oncle do. Here’s to 25 more, right?!

SICKO

That’s me. SICK. Like, not sick like I do gross stuff like…well, I don’t know what….but sick like I can’t breathe, I keep coughing, and I wanna crawl under a rock. A rock equipped with tv, food and drink, cushy blankets and pillows and an internet connection - but a rock all the same.

However, may I say that My Tween and The Little Woman are my most favoritiest people in the whole wide world? They know how to take care of their momma. I am at this very moment, propped up on two pillows on the couch, with a blanket and a cup of hot cocoa. We are gearing up to watch “You’ve Got Mail” and My Tween is ladling out chicken soup. How completely cool are my kids y’all? Love love love is all I can say. Like, totally.

The weather is kinda blah today too- rainy, windy cold. Good day to be indoors with two kids who love you watching a movie and eating soup.

I’m off to recoup, avid reader.

Ending my LTR with Claritin

OK this is how it went down.

Me: (sighs) We need to talk.
C: (Nervous, cause he knows THAT’S never good) Umm…what’s up?

Me: Claritin, dammit, I’m leaving you.
C: What? Why?? What have I done? (Lower lip trembles).

Me: Well you bastard, it’s more like what haven’t you done.
C: Oh c’mon. (Is now posturing, as if to fake its way out of a break up).

Me: I’m serious. You have let me down for the last time Claritin. The. Last. Time.
C: Fine. You’ll never find anyone as good as me. (Bravado)

Me: Oh yeah? Well guess what you arrogant antihistamine, “must buy me in the pharmacy, ’cause I’m sooo high grade”? Guess what you imcompetent piece of crap? I DID.
C: Who?!

Me: ZYTREC!!! I scream at the top of my lungs, and then—

It gets really ugly from here on out, but suffice it to say C dissovlves in tears as I throw him into the trash at 3 am in a fit of congested madness.

Oh avid readers, if there are any avid readers, pray Z makes the cut.

Ahhhhhh CHOOOO!

Oh have mercy, allergies, thy name is phlegm.

I am a miserable woman. Have been most miserable for days- since, Sunday- eons I tell you. Eons.

I intended, on Friday, or at the very latest, Saturday morning, to blog about the most wonderful performace The Little Woman was in, with the National Dance Institute. “Production, mommy, with dress rehersals and everything!”

IT WAS FABULOUS. NDI worked with 600 (SIX HUNDRED) kids from area schools for thirty weeks to pull this production off, and pull it off they did. Before I rave on, can you just imagine?! A gaggle of screaming jumping kids 600 strong, and somehow everyone survives? Over and over for THIRTY WEEKS? Brave people, those NDI-ers. Brave.

But I digress. The production was too cool. Each school took an era of dance and performed to that specific era. There was this one segement with a kid dressed like Elvis, singin Blue Suede Shoes, and the “teeny’tinies” no older than three, ran across the stage in poodles skirts screaming their hearts out for their Elvis.  I just about died it was that cute.

Over a thousand parents crammed themselves into a hot stuffy gym to watch their kids jump and dance and smile, and it was enchanting.  The Little Woman couldn’t stop smiling, she had the best time. I heart NDI. I do.

Rest of the weekend– Took Sweetie to the groomer, and now she is pretty pretty girl! My laptop and network collapsed, to my own horror and the utter dismay of my online pool group on yahoo (Bertie and Drea, I’ll return soon!), we saw Prince Caspian (to which My Tween leans over in the darkened theater and whispers, “Mom, he’s CUTE!”) and the movie was AWESOME. Loved it. Talked to my dear friend Nic, who predicted accurately that I wouldn’t post any pics when I said I would - she knows my mantle of procrastination SO well! The rest of the weekend is a blur of Claritin-induced haze….

I repeat, allergies, damn you. Damn you pollen and fluffy puffs of cotton from the cottonwood trees that are EVERYWHERE.

Oh and did I mention that I am drowning in a tsunami of pms hormones? Is that TMI? Come to think of it, aren’t most blogs TMI? Surely they are. Yet I am an avid reader of blogs, I cannot help myself.

I think you should be my avid reader. I’d like that……will post pics SOON I PROMISE (Nic).
In the meantime, check out NDI here –>

Peace out homie G.

Random Thoughts

I had the strangest dream the other night. I was wandering through the airport in Los Angeles, pregnant to busting. Moments later, was holding a baby girl in my arms, and said her name was Melia. She was GORGEOUS!

—BUT — this is odd for a few reasons -
1. Am not currently pregnant nor anticipate being so in the near future.
2. I hate the airport in LA. It’s huge and hectic and kinda scarry.

However, I did have this peaceful mother new babe feeling in my dream and that was kinda cool. My friend D said that to dream of pregancy or birth represents a new begining in life. Hmmmm??

Other things- wanted to throw out some sites that I visit frequently which make me smile/crack up/giggle and otherwise appreciate in general.

http://www.ericdsnider.com for Snide Remarks
http://www.cjanerun.com and http://www.thejollyporter.com - cool blog’s!!
http://www.castillogallery.com for some amazing artwork and poetry

What sites do you recommend? And, have any wierd dreams lately???

Comment! Post! (please?)

Mama-day

It’s a good day at Casa Lopez.

Mama day started with breakfast in bed and hugs and kisses. After waffles and hot cocoa, presents! The Little Woman bought me a delightfully pink pair of earrings, and My Tween gave me a little cilantro plant in a tiny hand painted pot. What more could a mama ask for right?

After breakfast and lolling about, we headed over to moms for lunch, salmon burgers and coconut cake, diet be damned! (for today any way! lol)

So, a quick run-down of the weekend, and then onto what I think will be the format for this whole Mind-o-Melis thing.

Weekend: Band recital for My Tween, pizza and icecream, shopping w. John, new cellphones for The Little Woman and My Tween (the texting has been non-stop, omg!), lunch at moms, roses a-plenty from Ontie and Ray and kiddos, wii, lolling about….blog.com love, chatting with dear friends…

Now, for my Mind-o-Melis moment. Today I am all about gratitude. I could have never predicted or imagined pre-kiddos that my life could be this good. That I get to hear the words I love you Mom over and over again, that I get to listen to giggles and hear amazing ideas from minds that are growing every day is incredible. I am so blessed. And yes, of course, I am totally glossing over the bickering, and the challeneges that come from raising two kids by myself– and maybe today those things are easy to gloss over, because today it is all about the hugs and the love and the happy.

Mama day rocks.
