Overheard

Man 1. “hey I need something from you, you are the wizard”

Man 2. “pay no attention to the man behind the curtain” (snigger snigger)

Man 1. “you’re gonna need a bigger curtain” (cackle cackle)

Maybe you just had to be there, but overhearing that exchange kinda made my day. It helps that “Man 2” actually goes by “Oz”.

Final thought: IT IS ALMOST FRIDAY!

I’ve gotten a little negative feedback from a post I wrote last week, concerning the unprecedented drop of a certain F-bomb.

To my avid readers who know me personally, surely you know I am capable of dropping a small fuck here and there. No biggie, usually warranted, lets move on.

To my readers, who sternly asserted that I shouldn’t write “that way”, I say to you this:

You have the right to read my blog and to not read my blog, just like I have the right to write what I want.

It is after all called “The Mind of Melis”. Not “The Mind of the Internet”, or the “The Mind of the Offended Masses”. It belongs to ME. You might find within a quirky story about my kids, or about my dog, or about random shit that doesn’t matter, except for the fact that I use this blog to express the things in my life that I feel are worth expressing.

Life’s kinda too short to sweat the small stuff, right?

The week(end) Review I

Hola avid reader.
First, a confession. I am staying home from work today. It involves much subterfuge and only a nanobit of guilt.
I intend to bake a peach pie, go to the library, and hang with my girlies. I predict it will be fabulous.

Secondly, I have to tell you that the weekend was a very good one. I took My Tween for some back to school shopping that was 99% painless! Hooray for painless shopping with easily irritated pre-teen! She also recieved a hair cut from the genius that is RAY at the Gemini Salon in Santa Fe. I encourage ALL avid readers in the Land of Enchantment to try and get an appointment with this man at your earliest convenience, because he is completely and totally insane with talent! Be forewarned, he is booked about three months out, so if at all possible, plan ahead. After My Tween walked out of there feeling all flippy and sleek and fabulous, we took Ray to lunch and had a wonderful time.

Thirdly, did cave in and finally buy the book Twilight by Stephenie Meyers. (Vampires). Was skeptical, in a hoity toity surely I have read better books than these, kind of way, only to find myself totally sucked in and unable to cease reading. Get it? SUCKED IN? hahahaha I crack me up….

I finished Twilight last night at 1 am. Am going to the library to get the other books. Will let you know if I still love them when they have been sufficiently devoured. Get it? DEVOURED? (Ok ok I’ll stop).

hee hee hee

Let’s see. Where was I? Fourthly.
Am going to run a “Something” spot, weekly. This week is Something Beautiful.

Behold, the Gilded Mobile from SpinDesigns:

I found this beautiful mobile on Etsy. I love the retro chic coolness. And I have a thing for birds……

Avid reader, I have so much more to share, but snuggly children beckon.

I have been waiting patiently to go ape-shit with my new camera. My Momma and My Brother John love me so much they bought me this for my bday:

I may take 9 billion pictures. Will also get a Flickr acct, so as not to shove each and every masterpiece down your throat and then whine when you don’t marvel at my art. See how much I love you avid reader? SEE?

Minor picture taking (the non ape-shit variety) did take place on Sunday at the Animal Plant Expo and that was fun, but it’s hard for me to really enjoy something when I am trying extremely hard not to perish from heat exhaustion.  I can’t hardly wait for the time and focus to really try my hand. You can’t wait either huh? I knew it…..

Can I confess to something? I was conflicted last night by my inability to cast a clear vote in the So You Think You Can Dance finale.  I couldn’t decide! So hard!

So you know what I did? I VOTED FOR ALL OF THEM. Take that, democracy, trying to force me to choose between my most favorites.

FINAL THOUGHT FOR THE DAY?

WORKING LATE IS FOR THE BIRDS! I’M GOING HOME!

Happenings, and the odd random, and a declaration

1. Last night, sound asleep at what I think was 2 a.m. a loud crash, bang! wakes me. A full on what the hell was that awake. Chester The Wonderful Wonder Dog was also roused, and upon hearing the crash bang, emitted a growl akin to that of a 80 pound rotweiler. You would have thought he was Cujo and not an 18 pound terrier, but there he was ready to protect his family. Eventually we settled down and this morning I could find no evidence of the crash bang, but inside I am all proud that my Ches was ready to man up and do some damage to anyone who might try to do me harm.

Have I mentioned I LOVE MY DOG???

2. LIME SHERBET ROCKS

3. Today is the anniversary of something important. Those closest to me will know what it is, and may be surprised to realize that even though the evolution of things invariably changes, what remains is still worth celebrating. 14 years of caring and loving and forgiveness and understanding, and triumph over dissolution in very real sense. Not to mention the birthing and raising and loving of two spectacular fabulous daughters. Happy Anniversary. You know who you are.

Critical update on my most horrible day ever:

It’s a good thing I have people who love me enough to come to the rescue….not just my kids, but a few other people who let me rant and whine and helped me chill the fuck out. I am as of this very second  in a much better place after seeing My Tween and The Little Woman and hugging them like the world was about to end. I love that they make things better—that is a very very good thing.

Dear Avid Reader-

Today is the first day of my birthday month. Yes, you read that right, MONTH. I don’t just celebrate one day, I get all 31 days. How cool is that? Well, let me tell you.

Today begins with only a half day at work. That in itself is cause for celebration. There will be a yummy lunch at Jinja, my favorite asian fusion bistro, and then some shopping and a possible mani-pedi with my friends Char and Leslie.

Tonight there may be a possible viewing of the newest Mummy movie. By all accounts I have heard it is mostly horrid, however, I liked the two previous Mummy movies, and I kinda still have an inexplicable crush on Brendan Frasier, so….

Oh but avid reader, let me tell you what is happening tomorrow. My Tween and The Little Woman have planned a little birthday luau for me! Is that not the most awesome thing? The best part is that they are so excited about it, and have been planning for weeks. Do I not have the best kiddos ever? Seriously. Such awesomeness must be rewarded, so on Sunday I am taking them to the Animal Planet Expo. I fully expect My Tween to spaz out from all the excitement, she is gonna love Sunday to no end!

When will I sleep you ask, in the midst of all this excitement and frivolity? I have no idea! But I will post some pics soon!!

Oh, and Happy Birthday to any avid readers who happen to be Leos! What are you doing to celebrate???
